PUZZLE

1) Type of facility that act as a means of searching and retrieving information

Collabaration facilities

-Facilitating collaboration between knowledge workers has largely been the domain of groupware products. As well as providing a basic messaging infrastructure in the form of e-mail services .It also offer a range of collaboration features such as shared databases, document management, discussion groups, calendar and scheduling functions.

Discovery facilities

-The requirement for a universal means of searching and retrieving information from different or across the organization is stronger than ever in modern organizations where knowledge workers are in constant need of finding and accessing from wide variety of information.

2)The Knowledge Processes

There are seven key of knowledge processes which are creation, application, exploitation, sharing, encapsulation, sourcing and learning.

Creation

-

Application

-

Exploitation

- a firm's ability to simultaneously exploit current technologies and resources to secure efficiency benefits, and creating variation through exploratory innovation.

Sharing

-refers to a number of procurement practices, aimed at finding, evaluating and engaging suppliers of goods and services:

Encapsulation

-is a method of designing modular communication protocols in which logically separate functions in the network are from their underlying structures by inclusion within higher level objects.

Sourcing

-refers to a number of procurement practices, aimed at finding, evaluating and engaging suppliers of goods and services:

Learning

-Learning theory may be described as a body of principles advocated by psychologists and educators to
explain how people acquire skills, knowledge, and attitudes.

3)The characteristics of knowledge object

-It acts a catalyst, enabling the fusion of knowledge flows between people, with knowledge content discovery and retrieval, through technology. Also act as primary connecting node for all key components in a KM system.

-It facilitates the knowledge transfer from person to person or from information to person.

-A knowledge object is created and maintained by a KM process.

-A knowledge object is used to search ,organize and disseminate knowledge content.

4)The knowledge-creating activities

Comparison:How does information about this situation compare to other situations known?

Consequences: What implications does the information have for decision and actions?

Connections: How does this bit of knowledge relate to others?

Conversation:What do other people think about this information?

5)Level of knowledge networking

Individual

-Refers to the capabilities, experience, competencies and personal development issues treated at the individual level of the knowledge worker.

Team and Organisational

-Include the internal company networks. For instance the informal,self-organizing or the formal networks of communities of knowerswith common interests.

Inter-organisational

-Refers to inter-enterprise relationships, value networks and also the accessibility to external, developed capabilities

6)The cycle of knowledge processes consists of the following steps:

-Perform a task and learn from the experience

-Review the learnings and document them

-Develop new learnings into improved codified best practice and share them.

-Develop, from specific cases of best practices, the best knowledge generally applicable.

7)Tool used to analyse knowledge networks

Personalised facilities of the tool

-is performed by taking into account the user’s needs, preferences and motivation. It also provide a first cut of the knowledge objects that correspond to the knowledge assetes.

Groupware support of the tool

-Refers to programs that help people work together collectively while located remotely from each other. Groupware services can include the sharing of calendars, collective writing, e-mail handling, shared database access, electronic meetings with each person able to see and display information to others, and other activities.

Network bandwith

- Refers to the data rate supported by a network connection or interface.

Bandwidth represents the capacity of the connection. The greater the capacity, the more likely that greater performance will follow, though overall performance also depends on other factors, such as latency.

Object store

- is a commercial object-database, which is a specialized type of designed to handle data created by applications that use object-oriented program techniques

Ontology

- an ontology is the working model of entities and interactions in some particular domain of knowledge or practices, such as electronic commerce or "the activity of planning.
